On Kia, the immobilizer logic sits in the BCM or smart key module depending on the platform. His smart key, FCC ID SY5MQ4FGE07, was a 7-button proximity fob. The fault cleared and the new fob learned on the first attempt.
Total was about an hour and a half. His bill was 274. The alternative was a flatbed to the dealer, a multi-day wait, and 478 or more.
