Got called to San Ysidro Ranch for a 2022 Sportage that wouldn't respond to its smart key. Owner had already swapped the CR2032 twice.
The TQ8-FOB-4F24 looked fine from the outside. No cracks, clean battery contacts. But when I popped it open on my tailgate workbench, there it was: hairline fracture on the PCB right where the battery terminal solders to the board. Common spot on this generation.
I resoldered the connection while she watched. The fob lit up and all four buttons worked again. But the real test was the passive entry. We walked around checking each door handle's touch sensor, then the liftgate button. Everything responded.
