Got the call from Midtown neighborhood at 7:30am. Teacher locked her only Sportage smart key in the trunk while grabbing supplies before school. The hatch had auto-locked with the key inside.
These new Sportages have the anti-lockout system, but it only works if the key's in the cabin. Trunk doesn't count. She'd already tried the door handle touch sensor about twenty times, like maybe the car would change its mind.
I decoded the driver door lock with my CY24 decoder, cut a fresh blade, then used the mechanical override to pop the hatch. The part that made her laugh: her smart key was sitting right on top of the supplies she needed, battery side up, looking innocent.
While I had her there, I tested the CR2032 voltage - 2.9V, getting close to the dropout zone. Swapped it on the spot. Then we ran through all seven buttons and both door handles to confirm everything worked. The whole rescue took maybe 25 minutes.
She made it to school on time with her supplies. Way cheaper than what the dealer wanted just to send a tow truck.
