A chiropractor over on the Calle Real corridor in Goleta called me on a Wednesday. His 2010 Sportage had quit responding to the remote and push-to-start wouldn't wake up. He had patients booked every 30 minutes until 5pm. No way to leave, no way to get a tow in the middle of a workday, no way to push it to the weekend because he needed the car Thursday morning.
I pulled into his office lot between appointments.
First thing I did was use my HY22 Lishi on the driver door to verify the mechanical lock cylinder was fine. It turned clean. Then I plugged into the OBD-II port and pulled the 6-digit PIN code for his VIN. The second-gen Sportage (KM series, 2005 to 2010) uses a standard immobilizer with a Texas Instruments TMS37126 transponder setup. PIN extraction, fob registration, done.
His NYOSEKS-09TX came back online. Lock, unlock, panic. All three buttons responding. I tested range from about 12 feet out, which is normal for these Kia remotes, and confirmed the immobilizer cleared on start.
He walked out between his 1:00 and 1:30 patients. Working key sitting on his desk. Car never left the parking spot. The whole thing took less time than his average adjustment appointment.
He'd already called the Kia dealer and got quoted a visit days out plus a tow. This was a fraction of that headache.
