1995 Kia Sportage
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How does mobile key replacement work for a 1995 Kia Sportage?

You call, give me the year, make, model, and your location in or around Thousand Oaks. I confirm what key your Sportage uses and give you a price right on the phone. When I arrive, I either duplicate your existing key or decode your door lock cylinder if you have no working key at all.

Q: What do I need to have ready when you show up?

Just your vehicle, a valid photo ID, and proof of ownership, typically your registration or title. I pull the VIN from the dash or door jamb to confirm the key specs before I cut anything. That's it.

Q: I only have one key for my 1995 Sportage. Should I get a spare cut now or wait until I need one?

Get the spare now. Here's why: if you still have a working key, duplication is the fastest and least expensive version of this job. I copy it directly. If that one key breaks, gets lost, or locks inside the car, the job becomes a decode-and-cut from the lock cylinder. That still works fine, but it takes longer and costs more than a simple duplicate would have.

Q: Can my 1995 Sportage key be cut from the VIN alone, without the original key or decoding the lock?

Sometimes. Key codes for vehicles from this era can occasionally be retrieved through a locksmith's key code database using the VIN or a stamped code on the original lock cylinder. Whether that data is available depends on what was recorded at the factory and what's in the database. It's worth checking before defaulting to a full decode. Either way, I arrive prepared to handle both scenarios, so the job gets done on the same visit regardless.

1995 Kia Sportage Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A woman near Sunset Hills in Thousand Oaks called on a weekday morning. Her 1995 Kia Sportage was sitting in the apartment parking lot and she had no key at all. Her spare had disappeared in a move months earlier, and the key she had been using finally gave out on her.

She had already called a dealer. They told her to tow it in and couldn't give her a time estimate beyond "a few days." She wasn't thrilled about paying for a tow on top of whatever the key work would cost.

I drove out to her complex and got to work on the door lock. Decoded the cylinder, confirmed the cuts, and had a replacement key made right there on site. Tested it in the door and in the ignition. Everything worked.

She had a working key in her hand without moving the car once. The dealer would have been a tow charge plus a wait plus a service counter markup. She paid a fraction of that and kept her afternoon free.

Kia Sportage Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Do I need to bring my 1995 Kia Sportage somewhere to get a replacement key made?▼

No. This is a fully mobile service. I come to wherever your Sportage is sitting, whether that's your driveway off Sunset Hills, a parking lot in Thousand Oaks, or your workplace. You don't move the car at all. Dealers will want you to either drive in with a working key or pay to have the vehicle towed to their service bay. For a job this simple on a mid-90s Kia, that adds cost and hassle that just isn't necessary.
