A guy in Mira Monte called me on a Tuesday afternoon. He had a 2001 Kia Sportage that had been sitting in his driveway for a few days because his only key snapped off in the door lock. Half the blade was stuck in the cylinder, half was in his hand.

I drove out to him. Extracted the broken blade from the door lock without pulling the cylinder apart, decoded the cut from the lock while I was in there anyway, and cut him a fresh key from the right blank on site. Tried it in the door, tried it in the ignition, both worked clean.
He had a spare cut from the same code before I packed up. The dealer errand never happened.
