2016 Kia Sportage
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2016 Kia Sportage Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy in East Santa Paula called me on a Tuesday morning. He was a disabled veteran, used a wheelchair, and had been seen at the clinic over on the west end of town. His 2016 Sportage was sitting in the lot and the remote had stopped responding. He had one key total. No backup.

Getting to a dealership was not a simple errand for him. His aide was not available that day. Even if someone could drive him, he was looking at a wait for an appointment slot, then a wait for parts if the fob needed to be ordered. He had heard that routine from somewhere else before and did not want to go through it again.

I drove out that morning. His smart fob had the factory FCC ID printed on the back -- exactly what I needed to source the right replacement. I pulled the emergency insert blade to check the cut, ran diagnostics through the OBD port, registered the new fob to the vehicle, and made sure every button on the four-button remote was working before I packed up.

He stayed in the clinic. Did not have to arrange a ride or reschedule anything. When I handed him the fob, he tested the lock button from where he was sitting and just nodded. That was it. No drama.

The dealer quote he had been given was enough to make the mobile fee look like a rounding error.
