I connected my IM608 to the OBD port just to check for any stored codes on the immobilizer side. Nothing flagged. The 2006 Sportage runs a non-transponder ignition key, so the engine start was never the problem. It was just a dead remote battery locking him out of his own car.
He drove home that same morning instead of waiting two more days and arranging a tow.
