Lotusland in Montecito, the customer's Sportage wouldn't see any of his three smart keys. Not one.
He'd already been to AutoZone for fresh CR2032s in all three fobs. Still got "Smart Key not detected" every time. The push button stayed amber, doors wouldn't lock with the handle sensor, and he was using the emergency blade like it was 1995.
I pulled codes first. U0140 - lost communication with BCM. That's the brain for the smart key system on these. His neighbor had jump-started the car wrong last week, and the voltage spike scrambled the BCM's key memory.
The fix wasn't new keys. I cleared the fault codes, ran the BCM relearn through my Autel IM608 Pro, then re-registered all three existing fobs. The BCM accepted them one by one. Each SY5MQ4FGE07 came back online with full function.
Testing time: walked around checking door handle sensors, verified push-to-start worked smooth, made sure the hatch button responded. Everything back to normal. Three working keys, zero new hardware needed.
The dealer quoted him two days minimum and wouldn't say if they'd need to order parts. I had him rolling in under an hour for a fraction of their estimate.
