Got a call around 9 PM from a woman staying at a vacation rental near the Santa Paula Airport. Visiting professor, in town for a semester, one key to her name. The 2018 Atlas would not respond to the fob at all. Dead buttons, no dash acknowledgment, nothing.

I pulled into the rental driveway about 40 minutes later. Her Atlas is the SEL trim, push-button start, four-button NBGFS14T fob. I popped the fob open on the hood. The CR2032 looked fine voltage-wise, so I moved to the car side. Connected through OBD with my VVDI2 running the MQB protocol, pulled the immobilizer data off the BCM (module 09, the J519), and generated a new Megamos AES 48 transponder matched to her car.
Cut the HU162T emergency blade on my Condor XC-Mini, programmed the new fob, tested all four buttons, lock, unlock, remote start, panic, and confirmed push-button ignition. About 35 minutes, hood to handoff.
She stood in the driveway holding both keys like she had not expected it to be that simple. Drove to the university the next morning with a spare in her bag for the first time since she bought the car.
