A mechanic who runs his own shop just off the main strip in Downtown Ojai called me about his 2021 Atlas. He'd been dealing with a stiff ignition for a few weeks and figured he'd eventually get around to it. Then one morning the key caught hard mid-turn and he had to wiggle it out. He held the new key, tested it four or five times, and then said the thing mechanics always say when a different trade solves their problem faster than expected: "I should have called sooner."

The dealer quote was for a job that didn't need to happen.
