I was parked on Main Street in Downtown Santa Paula, finishing up paperwork between jobs, when a call came in about a 2019 Atlas. The owner had one key left and had just snapped the blade off in the door lock. No spare, no backup, and the car was sitting in a lot near the old Limoneira building.
I drove over with my cutting equipment. The lock itself was still intact, which was the good news. I decoded the lock right there in the parking lot, got the cut depth, and ran the blank through the machine. The new key slid in and turned clean on the first try.
She had mentioned she'd already called the dealer before calling me. They told her the key would need to be ordered and she'd have to bring the car in. That wasn't going to work with a broken blade stuck in the lock anyway. The whole thing was handled on site, in one visit, for a fraction of what the dealer had implied the job would cost.
