A customer at her home in El Cajon had a 2001 Chevrolet Camaro with a cracked flip key. The shell had split at the hinge and the blade was wobbling loose. I moved her working circuit board and chip into a fresh shell, cut a new blade to match, and tested everything.
She paid about $95. The dealer wanted $200 for a full replacement when all she needed was a shell swap. The electronics inside were fine.
