I lost all my Dodge keys. Can you still make a new one?

Yes. All-keys-lost is one of the most common calls we get, and we handle it on site for most Dodge models. The process involves extracting the PIN from your vehicle's Sentry Key system via OBD, authorizing through the secured gateway on 2018 and newer models, cutting a high-security blade, and programming the new key to the SKIM or RF hub. In a 2014 Charger all-keys-lost case, a locksmith was on site in under 15 minutes and had the fob programmed in that same visit. Do I need to tow my car to the dealer if I have no keys?

Not for most Dodge models. A mobile locksmith with the right tools and Stellantis credentials can handle all-keys-lost right where the vehicle sits. CDJR dealers default to telling you to tow because they need the vehicle in their bay for wiTECH access. An older Charger thread explicitly told the owner to expect the dealer to connect "a star scan tool to reprogram the fob and the SKIM module" and that they would likely need the car towed in. Towing adds $150 to $200 on top of the key cost. We come to you and the only exception is certain very new models with restricted programming.

How long does an all-keys-lost replacement take?

On site, most Dodge AKL jobs take 30 to 60 minutes depending on the model year and security system generation. The PIN extraction, gateway authorization, blade cutting, and programming all happen in a single visit. In the 2014 Charger AKL case, the locksmith had a programmed fob before a tow truck would have even arrived. At the dealer, AKL means towing the car, waiting for an appointment that could be weeks out, waiting for parts if the fob is not in stock, and possibly being without the vehicle for days. One owner described 10 days just for the dealer to look at it.

What battery does the 2008 Dodge Viper key fob use?

The 2008 Dodge Viper uses a CR2032 battery. When we do an all-keys-lost job, the new key always comes with a fresh battery installed. You will not need to worry about battery life on your new key for a long time. We also recommend keeping a spare battery at home once you have your key, since a dead fob on a Dodge push-to-start system can trigger "key fob not detected" messages even when the vehicle is perfectly fine.

Can you make a spare at the same time so I have two keys?

Yes, and we strongly recommend it. Once we have extracted the PIN and authorized through the gateway, adding a second key in the same session is significantly cheaper than a return visit because all the heavy lifting is already done. Locksmiths describe charging $325 for two keys on older Dodge platforms versus much more for two separate calls. On Dodge systems, all keys should be present during the programming session or they risk being dropped from the system. Doing both at once protects you from ever paying for another AKL job.
