2005 Ford Focus
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2005 Ford Focus Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Bressi Ranch is one of those neighborhoods where everything is planned out. The streets are clean, the parking is organized, and the HOA probably has opinions about service vans idling too long. I parked clean, grabbed my bag, and walked up to a 2005 Focus sitting in a driveway on a Tuesday morning.

The owner had one key. Past tense. He had found a spare at a hardware store, had the blade cut to match, and used it for a few weeks before realizing it only started the car about half the time. Then it stopped working entirely. What he had was a correctly cut blade riding a chip that had never been programmed to his car. It was a coin flip that eventually came up tails for good.

His original key still worked, which made this a spare key job rather than an all-keys-lost. That matters on this system because it changes the process. With an existing working key present, the add-a-key sequence is faster and does not require wiping the learned key memory first.

I cut a new replacement blade to match his locks, transferred the right transponder data onto a fresh chip, and ran the programming sequence using the existing key. The theft indicator light on the dash went through its cycle and settled. I turned the new key. It started clean, no crank-and-stall, no flashing light. I handed it over and walked him through what the bad hardware store copy had actually been doing to him.

The dealer had quoted him a wait of a few days because they needed to order the blank. He lives in Bressi Ranch. I was already there.
