2017 Ford Focus
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2017 Ford Focus Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from someone parked near the transit center in Downtown Escondido. He had a 2017 Ford Focus and zero working keys.

Not one. He had been through a rough week and the last fob had gone missing somewhere in the chaos. No push-button start, no way in, and he had already called the dealer, who told him the car would need to be towed in and the job would take most of the day.

He found me instead.

All-keys-lost on a Smart Key Focus is not a five-minute job, but it is also not the mystery people make it out to be. When every fob is gone, the vehicle security system has no reference point. You cannot just plug in a new key and tell it to learn. The existing key data has to be cleared first through the diagnostic port, and only then can new fobs be enrolled. I backed up the immobilizer data before touching anything, ran the all-keys-lost sequence, and registered his new five-button fob. The whole thing happened in the parking area near his car, no tow required.

The moment he pressed the start button and the engine turned over, he went quiet for a second. Then he said something like, "They really made me think this was impossible without a dealer."

It is not impossible. It is just tool-dependent. There is a difference.

He saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer quoted, and he did not lose his car for a full day. That is the job. I packed up and was back on the road in under an hour.
