I got a call from a mechanic shop out in Alpine, in the Peutz Valley area. A Focus owner had already been through one locksmith visit that did not end well.
The other tech had started a key programming session on the 2010 Focus and the car battery sagged during the security handshake. That interruption left the immobilizer sitting in a fault state. The new key never learned. The original key stopped working too. The tech packed up and told the owner to tow it to the dealer. The shop mechanic called me instead.
When I pulled up, the car would crank but not fire, and the dash was showing a key-not-detected warning. The other locksmith had left the job half-finished, which is honestly the worst place to be, harder to untangle than a clean all-keys-lost situation.

I walked the shop guys through what happened and why the voltage drop caused it. They said they'd start warning customers about that before any locksmith showed up. Good instinct.
Job took about an hour and a half, longer than a normal key replacement. But the alternative was a flatbed, a multi-day dealer queue, and a bill that would have been a lot more than what I charged. The owner drove out of that lot under his own power.
