2007 GMC Acadia Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in Sweetwater, a hiking guide called me from a trailhead lot after spending two hours on a trail near National City. His 2007 GMC Acadia was sitting in the dirt parking area with no key. Gone somewhere on the trail, probably a mile back in the brush.

He had already called another locksmith. That guy told him the ignition would need to be drilled and replaced. The quote was steep enough that the guide called me before agreeing to anything.

I told him to stay put.

When I got there, I decoded his door lock using a lock-reading tool. Reading each wafer position gave me the exact cut depths I needed without opening the cylinder, without drilling, and without touching the internal components. The lock looked the same when I was done with it as when I started.

Once I had the bitting, I cut a fresh key blade to match. Then I moved to the OBD port and programmed the transponder chip to the vehicle's immobilizer. On an all-keys-lost job like this, the procedure clears any previously registered keys from the system and enrolls the new one. The Acadia confirmed the new key was recognized, the security light cleared, and the engine started on the first turn.

He mentioned the other locksmith's plan would have meant a new ignition cylinder, new keys cut to that cylinder, and a tow back toward a dealer because the guy said he couldn't handle the programming in the field.

None of that happened. The original lock works with the new key. He drove out of that lot on his own.
