2008 GMC Acadia
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2008 GMC Acadia Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A rideshare driver over in Downtown Oceanside flagged me down near the swap meet lot on a weekday afternoon. He had a 2008 GMC Acadia loaded with stuff he was trying to move, and his only key had snapped at the head. The blade was stuck in the ignition, the plastic housing was in two pieces in his palm, and the transponder chip was somewhere inside the wreckage.

That last part mattered. The chip was still intact.

I got the broken blade out of the cylinder without damaging anything, then decoded the lock to get the cut. While I was at it, I checked the chip in the broken housing. Still readable. That changed the whole job. Instead of running a full all-keys-lost procedure with the mandatory timed relearn cycles, I could work from the chip data I already had and bring the new key into the system the faster way.

I cut two new keys from the decoded lock, got the transponder data sorted, and programmed both through the ignition sequence. He went from zero working keys to two spares in about 40 minutes, standing in a parking lot in the afternoon sun.

He asked me what the dealer would have done. Probably told him to tow it in, wait for an appointment, and pay a lot more. He saved a good chunk, and he didn't lose his afternoon.

If your key is cracked or broken, don't throw it away before you call me. The chip inside is often still good, and that can make a real difference in how the job goes.
