I got a call from a guy parked near the shops in Downtown Santee. He was standing next to his 2017 Honda HR-V, holding his fob, and the car would not acknowledge it. Doors locked, no response from the handle sensors, and the push-button start just sat there dark when he held the fob up to it like that would help.

I connected through the OBD port, cleared the registered key memory, and enrolled both his primary fob and a spare he had been keeping in a drawer. Tested every button, confirmed the immobilizer was reading the fob correctly on start, walked both door handles, and left him with two working keys instead of one questionable one.
He mentioned the dealer had quoted him a return trip with a wait of several days just to get a service slot. He got it handled in his parking spot in about forty minutes.
