2020 Honda HR-V Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy in Kearny Mesa called me on a Tuesday afternoon. He had just picked up a used 2020 Honda HR-V from a buy-here-pay-here lot and the car came with exactly one key. The lot told him a spare was his problem.
He called his local Honda dealer first. The wait for a key appointment was over a week out, and the price they quoted him for a single spare smart key made him pause long enough that he went looking online. That is how he found me.
I met him in the parking lot near where he works, off Convoy. He had the original fob with him, which is what I actually need to verify the correct replacement before I cut or program anything. I matched the fob specs, ordered the right blank from my van stock, and got to work.
The key blade gets cut on my machine right there. Then the programming: I connected to the OBD port, registered the new fob to the vehicle security system alongside the original, and ran through every function. Lock, unlock, the panic button, remote entry. All four buttons working. I also walked the door handles to make sure the passive entry response was consistent, because that is sometimes the first thing owners notice when something is slightly off.
He had a working second key in about forty-five minutes, standing next to his own car. He mentioned the dealer quote again while I was packing up. I told him I hear that a lot. He drove off with two keys, which matters more than most people realize: if one key ever goes missing now, he has a working spare on hand and the next job is an add-a-key, not an all-keys-lost reset.
