I got a call from a guy over in Lomas Santa Fe, Solana Beach. He had a 2024 HR-V and one working fob. His wife had been using the car as their main errand vehicle and they never got around to adding a spare. Then she left the fob in a jacket that went through the wash.
The fob looked okay on the outside. Dried out, battery replaced. But it would not communicate with the car at all. He pressed the start button with it and got a key-not-detected warning on the dash. He tried holding it closer to the button. Still nothing.

He tested both fobs himself before I packed up. Start, lock, unlock, everything. Worked without a second thought.
The dealer comparison came up at the end. He said he saved a good chunk and did not have to deal with a tow. That part was almost beside the point. The bigger thing was that he was not waiting two days for a service appointment.
