I got a call from someone at a clinic near The Bridges in Rancho Santa Fe. She had back-to-back appointments all afternoon, her 1998 Prelude was sitting in the lot, and her remote had gone completely dead after she tried swapping the battery herself. She wasn't locked out. Enough to break the circuit. I reset the contact, seated a fresh battery correctly, and tested all four buttons against the car.
Then I checked the key itself, because on a car this age the blade wears and the cuts can start to feel sloppy in the cylinder. It was reading fine. No issues there.
She came out after her next patient to a fully working remote and a spare on her desk. The car never moved. A dealer would have wanted her to bring the car in, wait, and pay shop rate for a job that took me less time than her lunch break. That gap is exactly why I do this mobile.
