2001 Infiniti I30
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2001 Infiniti I30 Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in Otay Ranch, a guy flagged me down through a neighbor referral. He had a 2001 Infiniti I30 and two keys, neither of which worked anymore.

The car cranked fine every time, but it would start for two or three seconds and then shut itself right off. Classic immobilizer behavior. He had already replaced the battery in his regular key thinking that was the issue, which told me he assumed he had a fob situation. He did not. The I30 of that year carries a transponder in the key head, not a separate remote.

He had bought a replacement key blank online, had it cut at a hardware store, and carried it around for months thinking it was a working spare. It was just bare metal. No transponder, no programming, nothing the immobilizer would ever accept.

I cut him a proper replacement key to his vehicle using my equipment right there in the driveway. Then I programmed the transponder so the immobilizer would recognize it. First start attempt held. Engine stayed running. He stood there for a second waiting for it to die the way it had been doing.

It didn't.

The dealer had quoted him a wait of several days because they needed to order the blank. He got it done in his own driveway in under an hour.
