Your 2001 Infiniti I30 uses a Transponder Key with 3 buttons on the face, a CR2032 battery inside powering the wireless communication, and a high-security emergency blade tucked inside the fob body. That blade slides out when the fob battery dies and you need to physically open the door. There's also a transponder chip that talks to the IMMO module every time you press start.
An Airbnb host at her beach house near Otay Ranch had a I30 with a cracked smart key shell. The seam had split along the edge and the buttons were getting unreliable.
