2013 Infiniti M56
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How does mobile key replacement actually work for the 2013 M56?

You call, give me the year, make, model, and VIN, and I confirm the correct fob and blade spec for your vehicle. When I arrive, I verify your ID and proof of ownership, then connect to the OBD port with Infiniti-capable programming equipment. The intelligent key system on the M56 requires that new fobs be enrolled through the vehicle's security system using a diagnostic interface.

Q: What do I need to have ready when you show up?

Valid photo ID and proof of ownership, either your registration or your title. That's it. I pull the VIN from the dashboard plate or door jamb to confirm the right key specs. No proof of ownership, no key cut or programmed. That's the rule for any locksmith and any dealer, and it protects you as much as it protects everyone else. The verification takes a couple of minutes on site.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my M56. Can I program it myself or do I still need a tech?

You still need a tech. The 2013 M56 intelligent key system does not have an onboard self-programming sequence for smart fobs. There's no ignition-turn ritual, no button combination that enrolls a new key. That kind of DIY relearn exists on older vehicles with basic transponder keys in an ignition cylinder. The M56 is not that. Programming requires a diagnostic tool communicating directly with the vehicle's security system through the OBD port.

Q: My M56 shows a key warning on the dash even though the fob is right there. What's going on?

A few things cause that. Most common is a weak CR2032 in the fob. The antenna sensitivity drops before the battery fully dies, so the car struggles to read the fob at close range and throws a key-not-detected warning. Swap the battery first. If a fresh CR2032 doesn't fix it, the 12V main battery is the next suspect.

2013 Infiniti M56 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a woman parked at a salon strip in Downtown El Cajon. She had a 2013 M56 and a spare key situation that turned into a small headache when she actually tried to sort it out.

She'd already called the Infiniti dealer. They gave her a parts price, a programming labor line, and a shop fee, and when she asked how to get the car there without a working spare key in hand, they mentioned a flatbed. The numbers kept climbing. She hung up and found me instead.

I pulled up, verified ownership, and got into the OBD port while she sat in the shade. The M56's intelligent key setup requires proper diagnostic equipment to register a new fob. There's no ignition-turn sequence, no button trick. You either have the right tools or you're waiting at a dealer. I had the tools.

New fob enrolled, the four-button layout tested clean, emergency insert blade cut and verified, and the whole thing wrapped up in about thirty minutes while she finished her lunch.

She mentioned the dealer quote on her way back inside. I told her what I charged. She paused, did the math on what she'd saved including the flatbed she didn't need, and just nodded slowly. That reaction tells me everything I need to know about how dealers price this job.

Infiniti M56 Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Do I need to bring my 2013 Infiniti M56 somewhere to get a replacement key?▼

No. I come to the vehicle wherever it is in El Cajon, including Downtown El Cajon. The M56's intelligent key system is programmed through the OBD port, and everything I need travels with me. Dealers require the car in their service bay, which means either driving it in on a working key or paying for a flatbed if you're down to zero keys. Mobile service cuts that whole problem out.
