1997 Jaguar XK Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in Casa de Oro, a guy had been sitting on a single working key for his 1997 Jaguar XK for about two years. He knew it was a bad idea but kept putting off getting a spare cut.

Then the one key he had started acting up. He could get into the car fine, the blade turned, but the engine would crank and immediately die. Every time. He had already been to a shop that told him it was probably a fuel issue and charged him a diagnostic fee for that conclusion. It was not a fuel issue.

He found me through a neighbor and I came out to him in Casa de Oro. The transponder in his key had gotten weak enough that the immobilizer was only sometimes reading it. Cold mornings it might start on the second or third crank. Warm afternoons it would quit. Classic marginal transponder read.

I pulled up to him in the van, verified the key and lock situation on site, cut a fresh replacement blade to his vehicle, and enrolled the new transponder with the immobilizer. Then I had him do the cranking himself, three cold starts with the engine off between each one, so he could feel the difference. It started clean every time.

He asked about a spare on the spot. Smart call. We added a second key while the equipment was already connected, which is always easier and cheaper than a repeat visit for one key later. He left with two working keys for the first time in years.

What the shop charged him for a wrong diagnosis was more than what I charged for both keys combined.
