2012 Jaguar XK
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2012 Jaguar XK Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was in Bressi Ranch on a Tuesday afternoon when a woman called me from a parking lot about a quarter mile from her house. She had a 2012 Jaguar XK and a problem that had been quietly building for months.

Her only key had developed a slight bend somewhere along the way, and that morning it finally decided not to turn cleanly in the ignition cylinder. She got it out, but she was not going back in with it.

She had already called the Jaguar dealer. They told her to have the car towed to them, which was going to cost her separately, and that the key process would take a few days minimum for parts and programming. She was not excited about that.

I pulled up, looked at the key, and it was twisted just enough near the bow that it was binding on entry. The blade itself had no broken segment, which was the good news. I decoded her lock cylinder to get the exact cut, then made a fresh key blade on site and verified it turned smoothly through the full range before handing it over.

She stood there and turned it in the lock three times just to feel it work correctly. That is the thing about a job like this. No drama, no tow truck, no parts wait. She drove home two streets over.

The dealer would have been a tow, a wait, and a bill that made no sense for what was actually wrong.
