1999 Jaguar XK Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Late on a weeknight I got a call from a woman near the Encanto Border side of Lemon Grove. She works overnight shifts at a hospital and parks in a garage that doesn't get much foot traffic late at night. She needed a spare key made for her 1999 Jaguar XK before she found herself stranded rather than after.

The first thing she said when I answered was that she'd already looked up my license number on the BSIS website. She told me that straight out. She walks alone to that garage at 3 in the morning, and she was not going to hand her car to someone she couldn't verify. I respected that completely.

When I got there she had one working key. The original. Still starting the car, no drama. That's the best possible situation for this job because it means I'm adding a key rather than recovering from a lost-key scenario. I read the immobilizer data through the OBD port, cut a replacement blade to match the lock profile, programmed the transponder chip in the new key, and tested it cold, turning the ignition all the way through a full start cycle twice.

She watched the whole thing from about three feet away. No black box, no mystery. She asked what would happen if the new key failed a year from now and I walked her through what the symptoms would look like versus a dead battery in her original key versus a mechanical wear issue with the ignition cylinder.

She left with a verified spare, a real receipt, and a license number she'd already confirmed. The dealer would have meant a tow, an appointment, and days without the car. This was one hour in the garage.
