2014 Jaguar XK Emergency Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a guy at Coronado Shores, one of the high-rise towers right on the beach. He'd been dealing with a fob that was acting intermittent for weeks, and that morning it stopped responding entirely.
The XK was in the parking structure and he couldn't get the push-button start to recognize the fob at all. He'd already replaced the battery himself, which is the right first move, but nothing changed.
When I got there, I had him pull out the emergency blade from the fob body and use the door cylinder to get us inside. He hadn't known the blade was in there. That one moment, watching him look at it like he'd found a secret compartment, is the kind of thing that happens on these jobs.
Once inside, I connected my diagnostic equipment through the OBD port and checked the key module. The fob itself had a fault registered against it, not a module failure, just the key needing to be re-enrolled. The 2014 XK keeps the all-keys-lost procedure accessible through the OBD port on this generation without requiring the key module to come off the bench, which is the scenario you want to be in. I programmed a replacement smart key, enrolled it, and verified the start.
He mentioned the dealer had quoted him a range that started at several hundred dollars just to diagnose, before any parts or programming. He paid a fraction of that, in the parking structure, same afternoon.
