2015 Jaguar XK Emergency Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got the call on a Tuesday night from a woman in Del Mar, up near the Torrey Pines area. She was a night-shift ER pharmacist, just got home, pulled the XK into her garage, and the fob stopped communicating.
The car had been running fine all day. She tried the fob, nothing. She tried walking away and back, nothing. The dash was giving her a key warning and the push-button start would not respond.
She had already called the Jaguar dealer's service line and gotten a voicemail. She found me right after.
She still had the fob physically, which was good. I asked her if she had noticed any sluggishness starting the car in the last few days or if the doors had been slow to unlock on approach. She said actually yes, the past week the door handles had been a little inconsistent. That told me enough. Classic picture of a fob battery that had been running low for a while, and the vehicle security system had stopped registering the key reliably.
I drove to her garage. First thing I did was pop the fob, check the battery seating, and confirm the cell was genuinely depleted. Swapped it on the spot. That alone brought back the door handle response. But the car still had a stored condition where it was not fully recognizing the key, so I connected to the OBD port, cleared the fault, and walked through a re-sync with my diagnostic equipment.
By the time I was done she had a working fob, I had confirmed the emergency blade inside the fob was cut correctly to her car, and I showed her exactly where that hidden door slot is in case she ever needs it again.
She had expected a tow and a week at the dealer. It was closer to forty-five minutes in her own garage, late on a Tuesday.
