2008 Jaguar XK Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in the Naval Base Area of Coronado, I got a call a little after 11 at night from a woman who works night shifts. She was home, her XK was in the garage, and her only fob had stopped working. The car would not recognize it. No start. She had already looked up towing companies and was mentally preparing for a multi-day dealer ordeal.
I told her to sit tight.
When I got there, the garage was tight but workable. I connected my diagnostic equipment to the OBD port and started the all-keys-lost procedure for the XK. On this generation, the vehicle security system has to clear every stored key from memory and then learn the new one fresh. There is a timed sequence involved. You do not rush it.
The fob I programmed is a five-button unit, the same factory style she had before. Once it paired, I walked through everything - doors, trunk release, the alarm. Sat in the driver seat and made sure the car started cleanly. It did.
She had been standing there expecting bad news the whole time. When I handed her the working key, she asked if I was sure it was done. I told her to try it herself. She locked and unlocked the car three times.
She paid a fraction of what the dealer would have charged, and she did not tow anything anywhere. The whole job was done before midnight, in her own garage.
