2002 Jaguar XK
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2002 Jaguar XK Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from someone in Eden Gardens, Solana Beach, on a Tuesday morning. He had a 2002 Jaguar XK and one working key left. Not lost yet, just down to one, and he had been putting off the spare for about two years. He knew the dealer would make it painful, so he kept delaying it.

When I pulled up, he was standing next to the car with the key in his hand like he was presenting evidence. He asked me straight out how long the whole thing would take and whether it would actually work at the end. Fair questions. He had clearly done some reading and knew that Jaguar immobilizer jobs on cars from this era can go sideways if the technician is not familiar with the system.

I explained what I was doing as I went. Cut the replacement key blade to match his existing key, then connected through the OBD port to register the new transponder chip to the immobilizer. The system on these early 2000s XKs has its own timing and sequence, and you have to work within it. No shortcuts.

Key started the car on the first turn. He tested it himself twice before he said anything. Then he just nodded and said that was faster than he expected.

The dealer had quoted him a wait time plus a tow if they needed the car brought in. He paid a fraction of that, never left his driveway, and had two working keys before lunch.
