2000 Jaguar XK Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
San Ysidro Village isn't a neighborhood where you expect to find a 2000 Jaguar XK sitting dead in a parking lot, but that's exactly where I met this one.
The owner had a key. It turned in the ignition, everything lit up, and then the engine would start for about two seconds and cut out. He thought it was a fuel problem. He'd already called a mechanic. The mechanic told him to call a locksmith.
I've seen this enough times to recognize it immediately. That brief start-and-stall pattern on this generation Jaguar is the immobilizer doing its job. The key was reading enough signal to crank the engine, but the security system wasn't satisfied with what it got. Could be a worn chip, could be a sync issue, could be a cloned key someone made along the way in that car's life. A 23-year-old luxury coupe from San Diego has usually had a few owners and a few keys made.
I pulled out my programmer, connected to the vehicle, and checked what the system actually had on file. There was some history in there that explained a lot. We worked through it, got a fresh key enrolled correctly, and I verified it through several start cycles before I packed up.
He mentioned the dealer had quoted him a waiting period plus a number that made him pause. I didn't make it a whole thing. He paid what I quoted him on the phone, shook my hand, and drove out of that lot.
That's the job.
