2004 Mitsubishi Outlander
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How fast can you get to my location in Downtown National City?

Call us and we'll give you a straight arrival window based on where we are and what the schedule looks like. Being mobile means we're already on the road, not waiting for you to come to us. Mitsubishi's dealer presence in this area isn't as dense as some brands, so a tow to the nearest service department can eat an hour before you even start waiting in their queue.

Q: Can I get a replacement key made the same day I call?

In most cases, yes. We stock key blanks and carry cutting and programming equipment for Mitsubishi vehicles in the service van. If we have your key in stock and the schedule works, we come to you, cut the key, program the transponder, sync the remote, and test everything before we leave. That's the whole job, same day.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2004 Outlander. Can I program it myself?

The remote sync on these can sometimes be done through an onboard sequence, but the transponder side is a separate matter entirely and requires OBD programming equipment to register with the immobilizer. So even if you manage the remote sync yourself, the key still won't start the car until the transponder is enrolled. A lot of owners on forums find this out the hard way after buying an unprogrammed blank online.

Q: My 2004 Outlander starts fine but the remote lock and unlock stopped working. Is the key bad or is it something on the car?

Start with the CR2032 in the fob. Weak batteries on these cause range to drop fast, and sometimes remote functions cut out entirely while the transponder still works fine because those are two separate systems. Swap the battery first. If a fresh CR2032 doesn't fix it, the fob itself may need to be re-synced to the vehicle, which is a quick job.

2004 Mitsubishi Outlander Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A woman in Downtown National City had been running on one key for her 2004 Outlander for two years. Two jobs, two kids in school, and zero time to spend half a day at a dealership. She'd called a dealer once, heard the appointment window and the price, and just decided to keep going with one key and hope for the best.

She reached out on a weeknight asking if I could be there before her morning shift started. I told her yes.

I pulled up to her place while it was still dark out. She had the car running, getting the kids ready to go. I set up on the driveway and got to work. The job on a 2004 Outlander means cutting a replacement key blade to the vehicle and programming the transponder through the OBD port so the immobilizer recognizes it, then syncing the remote functions on the fob. Neither step is complicated, but you need the right equipment and the right blank in hand, which is why most shops just don't bother carrying them.

I handed her two working keys before she backed out of the driveway. She tested both locks, both remotes, started the car twice. Good to go.

She mentioned the dealer had quoted her for a single key, plus she'd have to arrange getting the car there and back. She'd saved a good chunk, and she hadn't lost a single work hour.

Mitsubishi Outlander Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

How long does a 2004 Mitsubishi Outlander key replacement take?▼

On site, plan for about 20 to 45 minutes for the full job. Cutting the key blade to the vehicle, programming the transponder so the immobilizer accepts it, and syncing the remote on the fob all happen in the same visit. The programming step itself goes quickly once connected to the OBD port. The time adds up from making sure everything tests clean before I leave, which matters more than speed.
