I was parked on the street near San Ysidro Village on a Tuesday afternoon when a guy walked out of a record shop carrying a crate of vinyl and his keys in his teeth.

What matters is whether the blank is quality-sourced and whether the person programming it knows what they are doing.

I cut and programmed the spare right there while he went back inside for another crate. When he came out, I walked him through testing every button and then had him start the car twice to confirm the transponder was registering clean.

He saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer would have quoted him for an OEM key, and he left with a working spare instead of a plan to get one someday.
