2014 Subaru Outback Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Over on the Beyer Blvd Corridor in San Ysidro, a third-shift worker called me on a weeknight. His only key to his 2014 Outback had stopped being recognized by the car.
The fob wouldn't lock or unlock the doors, and when he tried to start it, the car flagged a key-not-detected warning on the dash. He'd already looked up what a tow to the dealer would run and was mentally rearranging his whole week around no transportation.
He told me the Outback was parked on a gravel strip behind his duplex. I told him to stay put.
When I got there, I pulled out the diagnostic equipment, connected at the OBD port, and ran the all-keys-lost procedure for the 2014 Outback. The 4-button remote head key uses a transponder chip that has to be enrolled through the immobilizer, and the remote functions have to be synced separately. None of that happens with a key blade and a prayer. It takes the right tools and the right sequence.
I cut the blade to his vehicle and completed programming in the alley, well past midnight. Before I packed up, I walked every function: lock, unlock, trunk, and panic, then confirmed the car started and the dash showed no warning.
He'd been bracing for a tow bill on top of a dealer visit. He didn't need either. Done at the car, at his address, for a fraction of what the dealer route would have run.
