2020 Subaru Outback Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
San Ysidro, down near the border area, is not the kind of place you want to be stranded in a parking lot with no key and no plan.
A guy had driven down for the day, parked near the border crossing area, and somewhere between his car and wherever he was going, his only key to his 2020 Subaru Outback was gone. Not misplaced. Gone. He turned the jacket pockets inside out, retraced every step. Nothing. He called the dealer first. They told him he would need a tow, an appointment, and probably a wait of a day or two before they could get to it. The quote they gave him was the kind of number that makes you sit down.
He called me instead.
I got there with the car locked and no working key anywhere. First thing was getting in without damaging anything. I decoded the door lock mechanically, read the wafer positions, and cut a blade to match. Door open, no drama.
Then the longer part. All-keys-lost on the 2020 Outback means connecting through the OBD port, clearing the entire key memory, and then registering the new fob as the primary. The immobilizer has to accept the new fob through that process before anything else happens. There is a countdown involved. You just have to let it run.
When it finished, I tested every button, walked both door handles, and had him try the start himself. His Outback came to life right there in that border area lot.
He saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer quoted. No tow. No waiting a day and a half for an appointment. Done on site.
