2011 Subaru Outback Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a guy stranded at a scenic pullout near Spring Valley Village. He'd been on a road trip in his 2011 Subaru Outback and the key blade snapped clean inside the ignition. Half in the cylinder, half in his hand.
He'd already called another locksmith before me. That guy said the cylinder would need to be drilled out. New cylinder, new key, the whole thing rebuilt from scratch.
I brought my pick and extractor set, pulled the broken fragment out without touching the wafer surfaces, and then decoded the lock by reading each wafer position directly. From that decode I cut a new blade on site. The 2011 Outback uses a remote head key, so the remote and the transponder are all one unit. Once the blade was cut, I programmed the chip through the OBD port and tested every function before I packed up.
No drilling. No cylinder replacement. The car looked exactly the way it did before it happened.
The other locksmith's plan would have cost him significantly more and left him with a replaced cylinder. Destructive entry is a last resort. It was not the last resort here.
