Older BMWs with the HU58 blade key are among the faster European key jobs I do. The lock decodes clean, the blade cuts on my machine, and the EWS transponder programming finishes in minutes. A spare key with a working original can be done in 25 minutes flat on most pre-2006 BMW models.

A driver at a rest stop off the freeway near Tierra Rejada Golf Club had his key catch in the ignition of his 2003 BMW 3 Series. The blade was visibly worn and the wafers were grabbing. He could feel it about to snap and didn't want to force it. I could hear the worry in his voice when he called.
