A mom up in the Riviera neighborhood in Santa Barbara called me from the parking lot at her optometrist. Her 1999 3 Series wouldn't respond to the remote, and the valet key she'd been using as a backup had finally worn down to where it barely turned the ignition cylinder.

I got there that same afternoon. The original remote head key, FCC ID LX8FZV, had a CR2032 that tested at 1.8 volts, well below the 3-volt spec. Swapped that first. Remote came back to life on all three buttons. Then I cut a fresh HU92 blade to match, seated the PCF7935 transponder, and synced it to her EWS2 module using the ISN (individual serial number) read from the unit. The whole EWS2 login and key learn took about twenty minutes.
I had her test the full cycle: remote lock, remote unlock, trunk release, ignition start, ignition off, restart. Everything clean.
She buckled the kids back in and made pickup with time to spare. No tow, no loaner car, no week-long wait. Just a Tuesday afternoon fix in a parking lot, for a fraction of what the dealer wanted.
