2003 BMW 3 Series Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a driver near Tierra Rejada Golf Club in Moorpark. He was at his 2003 BMW 3 Series, key stuck halfway into the ignition, and he could feel the blade catching on the wafers. Worn teeth. He knew if he forced it, the blade would snap off inside the lock cylinder and turn a bad afternoon into a worse one.
He sounded like a guy trying to talk himself out of panicking.
I grabbed my HU92 Lishi tool and decoded the lock from the driver's door, where the wafers were still in good shape compared to the worn ignition. Cut a fresh HU92 blade on my machine, matched it to the decode, and seated a new PCF7935 transponder chip in the key head. The EWS3 module on the E46 lives above the pedals on the left side, module number 61.35-6 905 668 on his car. One OBD connection, the ID44 chip synced to the EWS, and the engine fired on the first turn.
Tested the remote too. Lock, unlock, trunk. All three buttons on the LX8FZV responded clean at about 30 feet.
He was pulling back onto the road in under an hour from when he first called. The whole thing, the part that would have been a tow, a rental car, and a multi-day wait at the dealer, was done roadside for a fraction of what they would have charged.
A worn blade feels like the end of your day. On an E46 with the HU92 keyway, it's one of the faster European jobs I run.
