Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2005 BMW 3 Series Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in Moorpark Home Acres, I got a call from a guy who had already lost money before he found me.

He'd searched for a locksmith on his phone, picked one of the cheap ad results, and a guy showed up at his 2005 BMW 3 Series with a generic tool bag and a lot of confidence. An hour later, the tech took cash and left. The key didn't work. The car didn't start. The guy was standing in his driveway with an expensive paperweight.

When he called me, the first thing he said was "how do I know you're actually licensed." I gave him my BSIS license number on the phone. He pulled it up himself while we were still talking. That's exactly how it should go.

I drove out to Moorpark Home Acres and had a look. The immobilizer module had been partially accessed and the key was in a half-programmed state, which is actually harder to fix than starting from scratch because the module has a record of an incomplete enrollment attempt. I worked through it with the right equipment, completed the programming cycle, and verified the immobilizer handshake was clean. All three buttons on the remote head key came up working. Engine started on the first turn.

He asked what I charged. I told him. He just shook his head and said the other guy had charged more and done nothing.

I don't mention the dealer rate to make myself look good. I mention it because when people hear what dealers quote for this job, they go looking for the cheapest option they can find, and that's how the scam cycle starts. Call someone licensed, verify it yourself, and get it done right the first time.
