Push-to-start all-keys-lost on BMW is the job that scares most locksmiths. The security module, whether CAS, FEM, or BDC, stores encrypted key data in internal EEPROM. With no working key, I have to pull that module, read the encrypted data, calculate new keys from it, write new data back, and sync the result with the DME. One wrong step or one power glitch during the write can brick the module. That's why most locksmiths won't touch BMW AKL.

A customer at a remote cabin outside Oxnard had a 2009 BMW 5 Series with push-to-start and zero keys. He was 45 minutes from town with his family and no way to move the car.

I drove to the cabin with my ACDP bench setup. The ACDP clips onto the CAS/FEM/BDC board without soldering. I backed up the full EEPROM and FAFP data before touching anything, then ran the key calculation, generated a dealer-style key, and wrote the new data back. His fob, FCC ID , was a -button smart key. The sync between the security module and DME completed on the first attempt.

His BMW started at a mountain cabin. Total was around 95. The dealer would have charged 200 plus a long-distance tow. BMW AKL isn't for every locksmith, but it's not dealer-only either. It's tool-dependent and backup-dependent. Right equipment, full EEPROM backup before every write, and it's a field job.
