A guy at the tennis courts near Hollywood Beach in Oxnard flagged me down, not literally, but he had found one of my BMW key videos on YouTube months earlier and saved my number. He watched the whole EWS procedure on camera before he ever needed a thing. I met him at the courts. Key in hand, I popped the back shell and the CR2032 looked original. Corroded ring around the edge, voltage way low. Swapped it, cleaned the battery contacts inside the LX8FZV housing, and the range came back to normal across the parking lot.
But the remote buttons working doesn't mean the job is done. I ran three clean start cycles, confirmed the EWS3 handshake with the PCF7935 chip every time, tested lock, unlock, and trunk from 30-plus feet, and checked the HU92 blade wear in the ignition cylinder. Blade was getting rounded on one shoulder, so I cut him a fresh one decoded from the original.
He stood there watching me work on the hood of his car the same way he'd watched the video. Said it looked exactly the same in person. That's the whole point.
