Butterfly Beach in Montecito is the kind of place where the cars parked along Channel Drive are newer than most dealerships' demo fleet. I pulled up on a 2019 BMW 5 Series sitting in a private lot just off the beach access. The owner had already been through it.
She had called a locksmith from a sponsored ad. The second fob needed to be re-enrolled, which meant connecting through the OBD port, running the security sequence through the vehicle's electronics, and confirming the fob was properly paired and all four buttons were responding.
Total time was just under an hour. She tested the handles herself, locked and unlocked from across the lot, and then started the car twice just to be sure.
She mentioned the dealer had quoted her a wait of several days and a price she described as "not reasonable." I do not know what number they gave her. I just know she paid a fraction of it and drove home the same afternoon.
