BMW all-keys-lost is the job most locksmiths won't book. The CAS3 module on these E60s stores encrypted key data in an onboard EEPROM. No working key means I pull that module, read the chip, calculate fresh keys from the dump, write back, and sync with the DME. One power hiccup during the write and the module bricks. That's why a lot of shops just say no.
A guy out near Mandalay Village Marketplace in Oxnard had a 2009 5 Series sitting dead in a lot. Zero keys. His only spare had gone through the wash months back and he never replaced it. By the time he called me he'd already been quoted a tow plus a multi-day wait by the dealer.
I drove out with my ACDP bench kit. Pulled the CAS3 from under the dash, clipped onto the board without soldering, and backed up the full EEPROM and ISN data before I touched anything. Ran the key calculation, generated a new key profile, and wrote the data back clean. Sync between the CAS3 and MSV80 DME completed first attempt.
He turned the key and just sat there for a second with his hands on the wheel. Didn't say anything. That pause where someone realizes the car actually works again is the best part of this job.
The whole thing took about 90 minutes, on site, in a parking lot. Way less than the dealer route with the tow factored in.
