1999 BMW 5 Series Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Over near Old Town Camarillo, a guy at the VFW flagged me down about his 1999 BMW 528i. He'd already paid another locksmith for a replacement key. The engine cranked strong, but the immobilizer killed it every time. Fuel cut, dead. The first locksmith blamed the CAS module and left.
Here's the thing. The 1999 E39 doesn't have a CAS module. That's F-series and late E-series territory. This car runs the EWS2 system, board number 61.35-8 387 945, mounted behind the glovebox. The EWS2 talks to the DME through a dedicated serial link, and they share an ISN. Without all three matching, the key, the EWS2, and the DME, the engine computer holds fuel hostage. It is not a suggestion. It is a hard lockout.
I used my HU92 Lishi to verify the blade cut on his existing key. Blade was fine. Then I connected through OBD-II, read the EWS2 data, pulled the ISN from the DME, and reprogrammed the PCF7935 transponder with a full security sync. His 3-button remote head key, FCC ID LX8FZV, part number 6955750, started the car clean on three consecutive tests.
I showed him the Autel screen with the ISN alignment between EWS2, DME, and key so he could see the match himself.
He'd already lost money on a locksmith who didn't know what module was in the car. I just made sure this time it was done right, on site, for a fraction of what the dealer wanted.
