Over in the RiverPark neighborhood in Oxnard, a woman called me from the parking area near the MedExpress. She'd already been burned once. Her last locksmith had no license, showed up in a personal car, and couldn't read the CAS module on her 2004 BMW 5 Series. He left with the car still dead.
She told me she'd looked up my BSIS license, LCO 6792, before dialing. That was the first thing she said. Not "how much" or "how fast." Just "I checked."
Her E60 needed a spare remote head key, FCC ID LX8FZV. The CAS2 module on these uses an ID46 (PCF7942) rolling-code transponder, and you need factory security data access through NASTF to write to it correctly. Unauthorized tools sometimes corrupt the CAS EEPROM, which turns a simple key job into a module recovery. I've seen it happen.
I pulled security data through the correct channel, programmed the new key with my ACDP on the CAS2 board, cut the HU92 blade on site, and tested all three buttons: lock, unlock, trunk. Then I cycled the ignition twice to verify the immobilizer handshake was clean.
The whole thing took about 35 minutes at her car. She got a real receipt with my license number, my real phone number, and the name on my van matching the name on the paperwork. She said that alone was worth the call.
Dealer would have been a tow and a wait. This was neither.
