A night shift CNA near UCSB in Goleta called me around 10:30 at night. Her only key for the 500 had stopped working, and the car was sitting in a fourplex carport with no way to start. She had already pulled up tow company numbers and was bracing for the next-day dealer route.
I told her I would come to her.
Her 2012 Fiat 500 uses the Delphi BCM with Megamos 48 crypto, which is a system I can do all-keys-lost on through the OBD port. I connected my programmer, ran the AKL procedure, and the module accepted the new transponder code without a fight. Then I cut the LTQF12AM433 flip key blade right on the tailgate of my van, programmed all three remote buttons, and tested lock, unlock, and trunk release against her car.
The whole thing took maybe 35 minutes in the carport under a porch light. She stood in her scrubs watching me work and just kept saying she thought for sure she would have to miss her shift. She did not miss it.
Honest note: a small number of later Fiat models with AES-encrypted smart keys or locked BCMs need bench work or a dealer flash. But the 2012 500 with the standard Delphi module is a clean field job. If yours turns out to be one of the exceptions, I will tell you before I start.
