His dog was in the back of his 2017 Fiat 500. It was July, out near Ojai Meadows Preserve, and the windows were cracked but not enough. The flip key blade had snapped off inside the door lock at the pet store lot. Car locked, dog inside, temperature climbing.
He called the dealer. Earliest they could see him was two days out. He called me next. I told him I was 15 minutes away and to call animal control if the dog showed any signs of heat distress before I got there.
I opened the door, got in, held the broken key's transponder chip near the ignition ring, and started the car so the AC could run. Dog was panting but okay. Then I got to work on the actual fix.
I pulled the immobilizer data from the Delphi BCM through OBD using my IM608, read the security password, and programmed a new M3N-40821302 flip remote. Cut the blade on site. Tested all four buttons, cycled the ignition twice, confirmed the transponder handshake was clean.
The whole job took maybe 35 minutes from the time I pulled up. The dog had moved to the front seat by then and was sitting in the AC like nothing happened.
Some calls are just about a key. That one was about a locked car, a hot day, and the clock running.
